Bay Window: Makeover Edition

A couple of months ago, we decided to get cafe shutters for our bay window. Even after deciding, I had a whole ton of second thoughts since it was a more permanent solution than drapes. Would it look weird?

Well, I thought, it can’t look worse than how this journey first began.

When we first moved in, the bay window trim was not painted to match the rest of the windows. While I appreciated the original wood, the inconsistency bothers my OCD-addled brain and so we had painters fix that (after we had another vendor skim coat all the walls to ensure everything would look nice and smooth.

Painting fixed many ills but then we still needed to remove the vertical blinds. Not only are they an ugly window treatment for the space but they were scraping against the ledge of the window when we’d open them, thus undoing the work our painters did. Additionally, they were impossible to open. Turning the rod to allow light in involved angling it and turning it just so, and even still, you’d feel like you were strangely behind bars in your own home. Not a good look so we definitely need a change.

Budget Blinds of Mamaronek & White Plains truly hooked us up with the cafe shutters they installed. Not only did they make the bay window look wonderful but they were the best vendor we’ve interacted with so far. They made this process super easy – as it should be. I couldn’t be more pleased with the end result!

With that done, we still need to clean up the paint where the old window dressing used to be and also replace one of the windows there that is cracked, in time. This weekend, I wanted to simply enjoy the shutters and think about our next project: the video doorbell.
